Deputy Jimmy Devins organised a meeting in the Southern Hotel last month to discuss the provision of radiotherapy services to Sligo and the North-West. It was very well attended. A decision was taken to organise a petition which is currently doing the rounds in your area. This is an extremely important resource to many people so please return these petition forms as soon as possible. If you don't have one call 096-49020.

Easkey Community Council was formed in 1986 as a Limited Company with five directors at present it has 10 directors. It was formed in an attempt to address what the members saw as a rural decline in the community, and be representative of all sectors in the community. Over the years the Council has grown in stature and experience. Local interest has grown and there is a positive recognition of the development work that has been done, that needs to be done
- The purchase of the old Community Centre and approximately two acres of land. The building of four Enterprise units on the old Community Centre site.Providing a Tourist and Information Centre to promote tourism and amenities e.g. Surfing and fishing in the area. The development of a playgroup in the local National School. The purchase of a small historical house in the centre of the village. (Which the Community Council intend to restore to its former glory)Providing project work for the local unemployed such as restoration of stonewalls and landscaping, through FAS and Sligo County Council. The provision of an Amenity Centre at the castle (toilets and showers)

Broadband Committee
Some time ago a committe was set up in West Sligo to determine the best route to broadband for its residents. Easkey is the first place in West Sligo to be offered broadband by Eircom and this is only in the immediate village. The committee is looking at all the alternatives and hope to be able to negotiate a deal with one of the broadband ISPs to offer reasonably priced service throught the region. They hope to have this complete in the near future.
