THE WINDMILLS AT KINGSMOUNTAIN

The windmills are located on Kingsmountain near Dromore West and consists of ten 2.5MW Nordex turbines (25MW in total).

The wind farm produces enough energy to serve over 15,000 homes, and saves the release of over 66,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The turbines are connected via underground cables to a small substation located on the windfarm. The cables are routed underground to a substation over 19km away. Here the voltage is transformed to 110kV and connected to the transmission network.

Such is the scale of the project at Kingsmountain that the crane used to instal the spire in Dublin's O'Connell Street was also used for the erection of the wind turbines.
