Castleconnor
Amateur Drama Group
Having
just mopped up all the Lizard's Spit, Spiders Blood
and Frogspawn from the stage after this years production
of The Sorceror's Tale, it's hard to believe that
the Castleconnor Drama Group has not "tread
the boards" since the last century!
The
group has always enjoyed loyal support from lovers
of drama and this years production, the first since
"When your Number is up"(2000) has been
particularly well received and gives the group a
strong signal for more laughter and entertainment.
Amateur
Drama has been a part of Castleconnor parish long
before television became the focal point in everyone's
home and the group has had memorable productions
of:;;
The
Chastitute, The Sorceror's Tale, The Honeyspike,
Many Young Men of Twenty, The Buds of Ballybunnion,
Sive and Anyone Can Rob A Bank.
The
group was reactivated in 1987 by Most Reverand George
McHale, then Parish Priest in the parish and became
well known in the locality for providing a good
nights entertainment. The group also travelled to
Ballina and the Western Drama Festival, Tubbercurry
where cast members Michael McDonnell and Niamh McGrath
each won awards on two seperate occasions.
In
1991, the group performed "The Latter Day's
are Cold" in the All Ireland One-Act competition
with John Judge winning a best actor
"Riders
to the sea" was the group's choice when it
participated in the Mid West Radio Drama awards.
The
response to it's most recent production in February
2005 of the Sorceror's Tale by James Scotland has
been tremendous vote of confidence to the group.
To
the audience attending any play, it is the cast
who provide the entertainment, however, the group
has tremendous support from its supporting crew
who have responsibility for set construction, decoration
and lighting, costumes and make-up, catering and
publicity.
