AUGHRIS VILLAGE
On the road to Aughris Head, take a left at the crossroads and turn right up a small lane, which ends in an abandoned village. In 1873 this was a thriving village with a population of about 400, but now all that remains is a legacy of the ravages of emigration on the district.
Click here to read extracts from an article that appeared in the Sunday Press about 20 years ago. The article was written by Cormac McConnell and recalls the reminiscences of the late Sonny Finnegan, RIP and Cissy Martin, RIP, a returned emigrant from New York.
