National Schools
In Templeboy information about schools in the early part of the 18th Century is
understandably scarce. However, we are aware in 1834 a school was established
in Cashelboy by Fr. McDermott and was taken into the National System in 1845.
In 1877, a new school was erected beside the the Church of Templeterrace. This
building now known as St. Mary's Parish Hall was a primary school up to the time
the present St. Joseph's School was built in 1962.

St. Mary's National School, Kilrusheighter
In the early part of the 18th century a school existed in the village of
Kilrusheighter. An application was made and granted to build a new school with
a slated roof, 6 windows and 2 fireplaces in 1877. The present school, St.
Mary's was built on the site of the older school and was opened in 1961.
