West Sligo Rural Transport
The West Sligo RTI is a Demand Responsive Service. The service offers a combination of hackney and minibus services, which are wheelchair accessible. Passengers are picked up and dropped off at their homes or can also meet the minibus at points along the route. There are a range of services to link passengers with villages and towns in the West Sligo and South Sligo Area to Ballina and Sligo.
The West Sligo - Chez Nous service meets the needs of passengers with physical and learning disabilities and travels to Sligo on two evenings per week with the services of a care assistant – escort service on board.
All services are booked in advance by ringing the RTI Office. The administrator places each passenger on the list and draws up a travel log, which is given to each bus driver at the start of each service. Each new service is developed based on needs identified in the West and South Sligo Area and in consultation with the RTI Working Group. All Services are House-to-House Demand Responsive and are wheelchair accessible. Passengers will be picked up by the minibus at demand responsive points along the route and will stop at the points described in the timetable.

Minister of State for Transport Pat the Cope Gallagher TD. celebrates success of the West Sligo Rural Transport Initiative in Dromore West.

On Wednesday 13 th September the Sligo Leader Partnership Company celebrated the huge success of the West Sligo Rural Transport Initiative with a visit from Minister of State for Transport – Pat the Cope Gallagher TD. A large crowd attended the celebration in the Community Centre in Dromore West. Speakers on the day were: Gerard Queenan Mayor of West Sligo & Chairman of the West Sligo Rural Transport Working Group, Michael Quigley CEO Sligo Leader Partnership Co., Gerard Mullaney Sligo Leader Partnership Co., Camilla Smyth Community Development Worker Sligo Leader Partnership Co. & Rural Transport Co-ordinator, Ann Rutledge Volunteer Driver – Social Car Scheme, Margaret Burns Passenger on Rural Transport Services, Sean Owens Banada Development Agency & Minister Pat The Cope Gallagher. After the speeches a Buffet Lunch was served which was enjoyed by all.

The Rural Transport is to be mainstreamed in 2007 to the delight of all involved & funding for the Rural Transport will be doubled next year which is testament to the huge success of the Rural Transport Initiative to date.

The West Sligo Rural Transport currently run 13 services in West, North & South Sligo which are booked in advance, a fare of €5 return is charged and Free Travel Passes are accepted on all our services.
