SEAWEED FESTIVAL

Enniscrone’s first ever seaweed festival  will take place over the weekend of September 16th/18th with events at various locations around the town to which people are very welcome.  There is a growing interest in natural ingredients in cooking and therapies and what could be more natural than seaweed.  There is now business sector  focussed on the use of Seaweed.  In Enniscrone we have one of the icons of seaweed businesses in Kilcullens Seaweed Baths.  Opened in “titanic year” 1912 and 99 years in the seaweed business a hot seawater and seaweed bath remains one of the great chillax experience of life.  The Bath house has a special Festival offer on the weedend so why not try it out.  Believe me it is an experience worth having.  Also try and combine one of the talks and demonstrations this weekend with at least one of the walks the walking club is hosting.  You never know what you might learn about whats in the ocean surrounding us and what beauty there is in the countryside so close to your doorstep.  We look forward to seeing you.
Many thanks to the venue holders, Gilroys bar, The Diamond Coast Hotel, Waterfront House and the Ocean Sands who hosted two children’s seaweed art workshops earlier in the week.  A lot of effort has been made to create these so please support them.

Timetable of Events

Friday 16th @ 2.30pm Waterfront House (096 37120) Seaweed cookery demonstration presented by Eithna O’Sullivan.  This is a free event please call Waterpoint House if you can to let them knoow numbers to expect.

Saturday 17th @ 11.30@ Gilroys Bar – The Irish Seaweed Research Group, Ryan Institute, NUI Galway.  Will give a general presentation on seaweed around Ireland.  This promises to be a voyage of discovery and really anyone with an environmental interest in seaweed, a biological interest in seaweed should find it interesting.  Students in particular those studying biology may find this of interest, but I reckon we will all learn something.

SATURDAY 17TH @ 2.30pm @ The Diamond Coast – Seaweed Cooking Demonstration By Prannie Rhatigan – Author the Irish Seaweed Kitchen – the comprehensive guide to healthy everyday cooking with seaweed.  Admission €5.  this promises to be very interesting event.

Sunday 18th@ Waterfront House, Seaweed and enterprise how to start a seaweed business.  Dr Stefan Kraan Director and co-frouder of Ocean Harvest Technology, Tuam Co Galway, this event is free.

Enjoy the events and talds and please do come and learm more and try some of the seaweed menus at our local eateries.
